Homes along the snowy slope
Good architecture, more than once
A mountain housing collection tests an idea across different dwelling types.
Stellar asks a question that belongs in more architectural conversations: can a good mountain home be repeated? Bohlin Cywinski Jackson develops a shared language across townhomes and detached residences, using cedar, steel, concrete, and glass to connect the collection.
The townhomes step down the ski slope. The larger residences place shared living areas beneath extended overhangs. These are related moves rather than identical plans, allowing the terrain and dwelling type to shape the result. The distinction matters when architecture has to work beyond a single exceptional commission.
The published areas—2,100 square feet for townhomes and 3,400 for residences—also make this a useful comparison within the collection. What stays consistent as the program changes? What deserves to change? Stellar’s interest is in that editing process. A coherent group of houses needs enough repetition to feel connected and enough adjustment to make each home belong to its particular piece of ground.
